Configure ZTE MF825a Airtel 4g dongle with Dlink DIR-506L Shareport Go 3g/4g Router

Router: Dlink DIR-506L SharePort Go
H/W Ver: A2
F/W Ver: V2.15
I was researching for a router to share the internet for my Airtel 4G dongle.
Two options finally  I had was TP-Link MR3020 and Dlink DIR - 506L.

 Both had mixed reviews of its support and more negative ones. But finally I decided to go for Dlink as TP-Link has reviews about its range problems and Dlink has a power bank with 1700mAh battery.

 The installation was so easy than I have expected. Here are the steps I have followed.
  1. Switch on the router
  2. Connect the dongle in the USB port
  3. Wait for the green light (4g) in the dongle.
  4. Search for the WiFi networks in your laptop and connect Dlink_DIR-506L SSID. (It wont ask you any password when u log in for the first time)
  5. In your web browser, go to http://dlinkrouter.local.
  6. Give username as admin (it may take it by default) and leave password column blank and login
  7. Go to the easy set up connection wizard and select 3g/4g modem option.
  8. Sim card Pin column left it blank
  9. Give a security password
  10. Wait for a  minute while the modem reboots
That's it. you have configured your modem. 

Search the WiFi networks again and connect to router again. This time you have to enter the password of WEP/WPA key.

Now you can see the green led on our zte modem started blinking. This shows your modem is configured.

The signal strength is too good that only one network bar is dropping when I place the router at one end of my 3bhk house and access internet on other end.

The only problem I have faced is about the speed. Im getting only around 2.5 Mbps through the router while I was getting around 8 Mbps when I plug in the modem directly to computer. I will need to research a bit to change any settings to improve the speed.

I willl update my post once I solved this problem. Please post as a comment if you have found any solution.

    hi u sure zte825a multimode working wid DLINK dir 506L. & do we need to keep pc/lappy on for hotspot

      Yes, Im using it. You don't need to keep ur PC on. But you can expect only 3G speeds

      Please let me know the D-Link router model which you are using currently. For Airtel 4G LTE [MF 825A] with the help of google i found one: http://www.cromaretail.com/D-Link-SharePort-Go-DIR-506L-Router-pc-18593-227.aspx. I spoke to the D-link tech support team they said it is not compatible with DIR-506L model. Is there any work around for making it to work?

      After steps 1 thru 6 as above, go for Manual setup option and only then u can find 3G/4G settings. From there its a smooth journey. In about 3 minutes I could share internet connection from my Airtel 4G dongle (Huawei 3276 -- listed in D-Link compatibility webpage) to my laptop, canvas 4 phone and samsung tab. Thanks a lot

      After step 6, I don't get the 3G/4G option in the dropdown menu. Is this an issue with the firmware version. I am trying to connect a DIR-506L with my Airtel 4G LTE-dongle-ZTE MF825A.

    Dear Blogger,
    I followed all your steps but unable to use internet. I can connect to wifi that I configured, but its not carrying internet connection in it and showing "no internet connection"
    I have plugged in Airtel 4G dongle of Huawei in my shareport go.
    Can you suggest any alternative solution?

    They claim a support to ZTE825A AIRTEL INDIA.
    I have not tested this myself but read about it on their web site.
    However, the router may be much pricy as compared to other routers in market.

    4G ZTE MF825A of Airtel is supported by Tenda 4G630 Router. Easily available in india with modest price in Flipkart and other websites. Check it out

    Thats a good information. However, DLINK DIR 506L is also an handy and portable device which can transmit wifi from Airtel 4G dongle (white color, black is not supported)

    Yes that is what I mean. When you goto Airtel shop they push the black dongle on your head. I am a victim and now ended up to purchase tenda router the only one which support Airtel 4g zte mf825a

      BTW tenda is having very light and reliable software for its router. To link on the other hand has bulky and buggy software. Purchased one 8968 to link and had to replace it with lots of hadship in finding the address and sending it by courier. But they replaced the faulty router and it had its own problems with printer sharing and pendrive sharing. When you insert a pen drive you are opening Pandora's box
